Tips for the Perfect Engagement Session

Congratulations! You're engaged! It's time to capture your love in beautiful photographs to share with family and friends through save-the-dates and beautiful prints!

Here are some tips to achieve the perfect Engagement Session.

1) Plan Ahead!

Once you've had time to enjoy you're engagement, its time to start planning! Engagement sessions should take place months ahead of the wedding. Save-the-dates should be sent out ideally 6 months before your wedding.

2) Do Your Research

We encourage you to research engagement photos you like that resemble your relationship that are realistic for your personalities and budget. Do you enjoy doing a certain activity together? Activities are great for engagement shoots, they give you something fun and natural to do while making the shoot individual. Maybe you're complete opposites and want to capture that. This session is about you as a couple. Think about what you would like to capture to show your personalities.

3) Pick the Right Photographer

We would love to be the photography studio of your choice for your engagement and wedding photos and we'd love to tell you how perfect we are for the job! But that might not necessarily be true...

Shop around. Spend time looking at photographer's websites and social media sites. Look through their galleries to see if their creative style matches the look and feel you're going for. Read reviews and then choose the right one for you.

4) Book Your Session

Now that you've chosen a photographer, it's time to book your session. Let your photographer know what you have in mind for the style of your photos and where the photographs will be used- whether it be save-the-dates or large prints.

5) Hair and Makeup

Your engagement session is the perfect time to try out the make up artist you plan to use for your wedding day.

Don't be afraid to wear a little more makeup than you usually would on a daily basis. A little contouring and defined eyes will give depth to your face in photographs.

Style your hair nicely, with little product. Perhaps you'd like to visit a blow dry bar before your session.

Bring along a small bag of makeup for touch ups throughout your shoot to keep things looking fresh.

6) Clothing

Wear complimentary colors and weather appropriate outfits. Think classic. Trendy clothing can quickly date your photos. If you're a high heel loving girl, you may want to bring flat shoes as engagement sessions often require a little walking. Most importantly, you should feel comfortable in what you choose to wear.

Bring options and don't be afraid to accessorize! Love jewelry? He loves ball caps? Bring them along!

7) Be on Time

Love those romantic photos with the sun setting in the background? If you booked your session for sunset, you probably don't want to end up with night time shots. You'll do yourself and your photographer a favor by sticking to the schedule.

8) Be Yourselves!

It can be difficult to feel comfortable in front of a lens but be yourselves, have fun and your pictures will come out wonderfully!
